Greetings, Thrifty Sisters!  I hope that you had a wonderful week continuing to keep it thrifty in your kitchens and have been enjoying your local produce!

Recently, I posted about how drinking straws were recyclable. That got me thinking as to what else happened to be recyclable that I wasn’t even aware of. Take for instance, all of that plastic wrap on items like toilet paper, paper towels and paper napkins. AND GUESS WHAT!? The plastic film used to package such items IS recyclable.  They just don’t label it.  According to these plastics are generally #2 and #4, so check with your local recycling company and if they pick up plastic #2 and #4, you can chuck in your bin! 

Now some curbside recycling does not pick up plastic bags, which means that the customer usually has to take a bag of bags back to a store that has recycling bins, but this plastic film can also be placed in this bin.  According to this site ( ) there is also a whole host of other plastics that can be recycled in this manner! Of course, check with the local store and their policy before you bring in a dumpster full of recyclables!

I can’t tell you how happy that makes me!  I have recently been throwing that plastic wrap in my bin, in “hopes” that it was the right choice, but now I can guilt free recycle away!

Speaking of bathrooms, I recently ran across some great ways of “freshening up” the bathroom, but my favorite tip was found here:  By using baking soda and a few drops of essential oil into a small Mason jar this blogger used perforated craft paper instead of the metal lid and created her own bathroom diffuser. Now this is one new trick, I can’t wait to try out!

Before I leave you this week, let me share a dessert recipe that will help you with all of those berries and fruits that you may have picked up and are not so sure what to do with.  This recipe was inspired from my Ireland trip.  While in Waterford, I had the most amazing berry dessert.  I am not sure what their secret was, but it was delectable and amazing.

Triple Berry Crisp,


1 1/2 cups fresh blackberries , 1 1/2 cups fresh raspberries , 1 1/2 cups fresh blueberries, 4 tablespoons white sugar , 2 cups all-purpose flour , 2 cups rolled oats , 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar , 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon , 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg , 1 1/2 cups butter


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a large bowl, gently toss together blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, and white sugar; set aside.
  3. In a separate large bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cut in butter until crumbly. Press half of mixture in the bottom of a 9×13 inch pan. Cover with berries. Sprinkle remaining crumble mixture over the berries.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes, or until fruit is bubbly and topping is golden brown.
